CSOs contributing to Balkan regional thematic co-operation and networking

Over the past several years there is a growing number of CSOs who have developed contacts across the Balkan countries and started to include CSOs, their networks and representatives in  regional co-operatioon and networking activities. However, there is a need of thorough analysis and a systematic approach to the involvement of civil society in strengthening and widening regional cooperation with an appropriate mapping of its strengths and capacities and capability to transfer efforts in adopting EU values, standards and reforms to the local level. As indicated in TACSO report and date basis of regional CSO networks, (https://tacso.eu/) CSOs have been invested substantial efforts aimed at creating a more structured networks so as to strengthen resources of the civil society in the EU accession of Western Balkan societies and closer cooperation in the region. Apart from Regional Co-operation Council (https://www.rcc.int/ ) recently established regional co-operation structures founded by the governments of Balkan countries have also substantially contributed to increasing CSO regional networking (Western Balkan Fund  http://westernbalkansfund.org/ and Regional Youth Co-operation Council https://www.rycowb.org ). However, this intensified regional co-operation, dialogue and networking process require continuous support to bolstering CSOs  potential in improving strategic communication with EU institutions and EU Member States on achievements of regional organisations and their contribution to the EU accession process as well as with their domestic public and different target groups; organizing sectoral and general debates with civil society in the Western Balkans on how to improve their contribution in developing regional cooperation and good neighbourly relations following the model developed by the Berlin Process.
