How is civil society doing in Austria these days? Have the conditions for civil society changed in the last years? This question was asked by the advocacy group of non-profit organizations IGO during their “update” of the CIVIL SOCIETY INDEX, which examined the framework conditions of civil society five years after the publication of a first study. The results were presented to the public in spring 2019 and sparked keen interest. The short answer: Life for associations has become more diverse and much more challenging, the attitude of politics continues to play a decisive role and volunteering is still an integral part of our society no-one would like to miss.
